Korba Creates History with ‘Cleanliness Mega Pledge’, Enters Golden Book of World Records

Korba, February 6, 2026:
Korba district of Chhattisgarh has scripted a new chapter in the field of urban cleanliness by achieving an international milestone. The Municipal Corporation Korba has earned a place in the Golden Book of World Records by collecting more than 10,000 signatures within just one hour during its “Cleanliness Mega Pledge and Signature Campaign”.

The record-breaking initiative was organised with the objective of transforming cleanliness into a mass movement through active public participation. As part of the campaign, a massive 280-metre-long banner was installed at the event venue, where citizens from all walks of life—students from schools and colleges, representatives of social organisations, public representatives and common residents—came forward to register their commitment towards maintaining cleanliness.

The overwhelming response from the public turned the programme into a people-driven movement. Participation from children, youth and senior citizens alike conveyed a strong message that cleanliness is not merely a governmental responsibility, but a collective social duty.
Notably, Korba Municipal Corporation has been consistently introducing innovative measures in the sanitation sector. Recently, Korba secured the 8th position among the cleanest cities in the country in the national cleanliness survey, bringing laurels to the city. The latest world record further reinforces Korba’s growing reputation as a model city for sanitation and civic awareness.
The programme was graced by Chhattisgarh Industry Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan, Mayor Sanju Devi Rajput, Collector Kunal Dudawat and Municipal Commissioner Ashutosh Pandey. All dignitaries signed the banner themselves and motivated citizens to adopt cleanliness as a way of life. Thousands of participants were also administered a collective cleanliness pledge at the venue.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan described the occasion as a historic moment for Korba. He said the achievement was not just about breaking a numerical record, but reflected a positive change in public mindset. He expressed confidence that such public-driven initiatives would help establish Korba as a leading cleanliness model city at the national and international levels.
Municipal Commissioner Ashutosh Pandey informed that the previous record of around 7,500 signatures in one hour, held by Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, had now been surpassed by Korba. He added that the achievement clearly demonstrates that when administration and citizens work together with determination, social goals like cleanliness can be transformed into landmark accomplishments.
