Senior BJP Leader Axay Garg Brutally Murdered in Korba, Traders Call for Shutdown

Korba,
In a shocking incident, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Axay Garg was brutally murdered by three unidentified assailants in Korba district on Tuesday morning. The attackers, who arrived in a black car, allegedly assaulted him with knives and an axe, inflicting deep wounds from head to toe. The incident took place under the Katghora police station limits.

According to sources, Axay Garg was a former Janpad Panchayat member and a road construction contractor. Though he did not currently hold any official post in the BJP, he was considered a senior and influential leader in the region. He was overseeing the construction of a road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Keshalpur village.

The incident occurred between 9 am and 10 am when Garg reached the construction site. The three assailants suddenly attacked him at close range using sharp weapons. Garg collapsed on the spot after sustaining multiple grievous injuries, and the attackers fled the scene in their vehicle.
Locals rushed Garg towards Katghora hospital, but due to excessive blood loss, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. Severe injuries were found on his hands, head, neck, abdomen, back and other parts of the body.
Following the incident, tension gripped Keshalpur village and surrounding areas. BJP workers and local residents expressed strong resentment over the murder. Traders in Korba have announced a shutdown in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and strict action.
Katghora police station in-charge Dharam Narayan Tiwari, along with police personnel, reached the spot soon after receiving information. The area has been cordoned off, and statements of nearby residents are being recorded. Police have initiated an investigation into the murder.
Preliminary investigation suggests that old enmity may be the motive behind the killing. However, police are also probing other angles, including political rivalry and personal disputes. No arrests have been made so far, and the identities of the accused have not yet been disclosed.
Considering the seriousness of the case, Bilaspur Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Shukla has reached Korba and is monitoring the investigation.
Meanwhile, a large number of family members, supporters and local residents have gathered outside the hospital, demanding justice for the slain leader. The situation remains tense, and heavy police deployment has been made at the hospital premises and key intersections to maintain law and order.
