Raipur, 1 September 2024

Two years old Devansh got a new lease of life after successfully undergoing Cochlear surgery – reviving him to listen and speak after being treated under CHIRAYU Scheme.

Devansh was diagnosed with the hearing impairment during the daily health campaign organized by CHIRAYU Team B of Community Health Centre in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district. Devansh was referred by his native village’s Hiccha Anganwadi Centre, where her was identified with the congenital hearing loss.

Eventually the child was referred to Raipur based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Cochlear implant surgery, under which a device is implanted inside the ear and enables the functions of sound processor and transmitter in the ear. Generally, this type of surgery costs around Rs seven lakh and under the CHRIYU scheme it was performed free of cost. After this the child was given speech therapy for three months and improved his speech impairment as well.

Expressing his gratitude to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Devansh’s father Shri Kishore Patel said , “I was not in cap city to arrange such a huge amount for the treatment for my child but this treatment became possible only through CHIRAYU Yojana. We express heartfelt gratitude to state government and the entire health department team for diligently performing their duty.”

CHRIYU scheme is an initiative aimed at screening children from 0 to 18 years for 32 common health conditions in children for free treatment and management including 4 Ds – birth defects, diseases, deficiencies and developmental delays, early detection and surgery at tertiary level. Early intervention services and follow-up care are provided at the district level to children suffering from identified selected health conditions. These services are provided free of cost, helping their families reduce out-of-pocket expenses on treatment. To facilitate the screening of children, there is an agreement with the Ministry of Women and Child Development for screening of children in the age group of 0-6 years enrolled in Anganwadi centers and with the Ministry of Human Resource Development for screening of children enrolled in government and government centres.

Under Chief Minister’s thoughtful approach state health department is constantly striving for the well-being of the people. Shri Sai has given instructions to all the officers for good governance in the state. In compliance with this, proper arrangements were made for the treatment of Devansh under the guidance of Collector Shri Dharmesh Sahu and Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr F R Nirala.
