OZONE DAY CELEBRATIONS BY NTPC LARA TO CREATE AWARENESS

People all across the world are observing, 16th September as World Ozone Day. The purpose of this day is to increase public awareness of the ozone layer’s vital role in preserving life on Earth. The theme for this year’s Ozone Day celebration is “From Science to Global Action.” The campaign highlights the power of harmonized efforts in tackling environmental concerns by highlighting how scientific results are turned into international cooperation and policy initiatives. The ozone layer, referred to as “Earth’s umbrella,” serves as a screen to protect the planet from the sun’s damaging UV rays. This natural barrier intensely lowers the incidence of cataracts, skin cancer, and ecological harm.

NTPC Lara celebrated World Ozone Day by engaging events that promoted the value of protecting the ozone layer, such as sketching, slogan, and elocution competitions for students from Lara and Rengalpalli government schools that are close to NTPC Lara. Dr. Sudhir Dahiya, Additional General Manager, NTPC Lara, spoke to the students about Ozone Day during the occasion, raising their awareness. In addition to encouraging a behavioral shift toward the use of ozone-friendly products, energy conservation, and support for measures that protect our world, he urged everyone to keep informed about environmental issues. A prize distribution ceremony for the competition winners marked the end of the show.

Highlighting additional ongoing environmental initiatives throughout the NTPC Lara portfolio, includes the development of a water body within the township, the conversion of used bag filters into carry bags, the prohibition of single-use plastics, the planting of 12,000 saplings at the Miyawaki Plantation inside the township, and smart irrigation water efficiency initiatives that reduce water consumption. Preventive maintenance and training initiatives have also been incorporated into NTPC Lara’s everyday operations to guarantee that its sustainability initiatives encompass not just technology but also people and procedures. With these combined efforts, NTPC Lara has established itself as India’s one of the power producers, and working to protect the country’s environment for next generations. Its participation in World Ozone Day 2025 reinforced the idea that commercial activities and environmental responsibility can coexist by acting as a technical demonstration and educational platform.
