New Era Progressive School hosts grand annual sports meet ‘The Mavericks’

New Era Progressive School, Korba, successfully organised the second phase of its Annual Sports Meet 2025–26, titled ‘The Mavericks’, on December 20, 2025. The event was conducted for senior students from Classes VI to XII, who displayed remarkable sportsmanship, discipline and athletic skills.

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Nitish Thakur, Additional Superintendent of Police, Korba, along with the special guest, Mrs Premlata Yadav, Divisional Forest Officer, Korba. The dignitaries unfurled the school flag and administered the oath of sportsmanship to the participants. An impressive march past by the students marked the ceremonial beginning of the event.

Addressing the gathering, Thakur emphasised the role of sports in the overall personality development of students. He said that sports not only promote physical fitness but also inculcate discipline, leadership qualities and self-control. He appreciated the school’s efforts towards holistic development of its students. Mrs Yadav encouraged students to excel in both academics and sports for balanced growth.

School Chairman Kishor Kumar Sahu stated that sports help students develop resilience and prepare them to face life’s challenges. Director Dilip Kumar Sahu highlighted that participation in sports fosters teamwork, patience and self-confidence, which are essential for future success.

Principal D S Rao informed that the annual sports meet was organised in two phases to ensure equal participation opportunities for students of all age groups. Vice-Principal Mrs Kirti Herit motivated the students to continue striving for excellence in sports.

Headmaster Jagjit Singh Bhatti, along with the teaching staff, actively contributed to the smooth conduct of the event.

Several competitions, including track events, relay race, long jump, shot put and various team games, were organised for the senior students. The school campus resonated with enthusiasm and festive spirit throughout the day.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the school management. The annual sports meet proved to be an inspiring initiative towards the all-round development of students.
