MGNREGA gave a new lease of life to Smt. Barat Bai’s barren land

Bilaspur, 04 March 2023. Smt. Barat Bai, a resident of a small village Baridih in Kota Block, is an inspiration for other women. By being economically empowered, she is fulfilling the responsibilities of her family. The Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Gramin Rozgar Yojana has played a prominent role in her success. Under this scheme, Dabri has been constructed in her village, through which Barat Bai is earning extra income and financially supporting her family.
Smt. Barat Bai said that for a barren land, water is nothing less than elixir. Most rural people living in villages are mostly dependent on rain water for irrigation. The State Government, under MGNREGA, is constructing Dabri on farmers’ land and making continuous efforts for water conservation, as well as improvement in people’s living standards at the rural level. She said that earlier, she had a barren ground in the name of land, where farming was as difficult as extracting water from sand. Land is not the only requirement for farming. The land needs to be fertile for the cultivation of crops. The barren land was of no use to her. There was no hope of economic improvement because of the land being infertile. In the financial year 2020-21, the approval for Dabri construction on their barren land was granted. Barat Bai saw a new ray of hope after the construction of the Dabri, and started pisciculture in the Dabri. She said that not only she is earning an income because of the Dabri, its construction has also made the rest of her barren land fertile. She has started growing crops on the land and now there is continuous improvement in her economic condition. Thanking the MGNREGA scheme for her success, Smt. Barat Bai said that the scheme has given a new lease of life to her barren land.
