From ₹1,000 Monthly Support to a Thriving Vegetable Garden: Ishwari’s Journey Towards Self-Reliance

Mahtari Vandan Yojana Helps GPM Woman Strengthen Family Income and Support Her Children’s Education
Once Dependent on Borrowing for Small Needs, Ishwari Now Turns Her Hard Work into an Additional Source of Income
Raipur, October 5, 2026/ In the remote forested village of Bamhani in Pendra development block of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, a small vegetable garden has become a symbol of a much bigger change in Smt. Ishwari Markar’s life. For the 40-year-old, the ₹1,000 received every month under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana has provided not just financial support, but the confidence to build a modest source of income through her own efforts.
Using a part of the assistance received under the scheme, implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Ishwari developed a vegetable garden on the land behind her home. The garden now supplies fresh vegetables for her family while the surplus is sold in the local market, helping her earn additional income.
There was a time when even small household requirements meant borrowing money. On some occasions, she could not arrange funds even when the need was urgent. Managing household expenses and meeting the educational needs of her children on a limited income was a persistent challenge.
The regular financial assistance under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana has gradually changed that situation. With a fixed amount reaching her bank account every month, Ishwari has greater financial flexibility and does not have to depend on others for every small requirement.
Ishwari said that earlier she often had to borrow money for household needs and faced considerable difficulty when funds were unavailable. She expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, saying that the monthly assistance under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana has given women like her much-needed support and reduced their dependence on others.
Turning Monthly Support into an Income-Generating Activity
Rather than using the assistance entirely for household expenses, Ishwari decided to invest a portion of it in her vegetable garden. She began cultivating different vegetables on the available land behind her house. The produce serves the family’s needs, while the surplus is sold in the market.
The initiative has reduced household expenditure on vegetables while creating a small but regular additional income stream. The modest garden has thus evolved from a piece of unused land into an important part of Ishwari’s journey towards economic self-reliance.
Helping Meet Her Children’s Educational Needs
The monthly assistance is also helping Ishwari meet the educational needs of her children. The predictable financial support has eased pressure on the household budget and helped her manage their smaller educational expenses.
Her experience demonstrates how regular financial assistance can become more meaningful when combined with individual initiative and hard work. For Ishwari, the ₹1,000 is not merely an amount received each month. It has become a resource that she is using to strengthen her family’s financial stability.
From Borrowing to Confidence
The most significant change in Ishwari’s life has been the growth of her self-respect and confidence. The uncertainty she once faced while arranging money for everyday needs has gradually given way to the satisfaction of producing something with her own hands and earning from it.
In Bamhani, the green vegetable patch behind her home now reflects that change. Government support has provided the initial financial cushion, while Ishwari’s effort has turned it into an opportunity for greater self-reliance.
Smt. Ishwari Markar expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai for the regular assistance under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana. She said the scheme has given her not only economic support but also the confidence to move forward through her own efforts.
Her journey shows how timely support, when combined with determination and initiative, can help rural women strengthen their families’ incomes and take meaningful steps towards self-reliance.
