Bharatmala project worth ₹3,147 crore takes shape in Jashpur, driven by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s efforts

Raipur–Dhanbad Economic Corridor to transform connectivity in Jashpur; travel to state capital will become easier

Around 104 km of four-lane road to pass through Jashpur district, boosting trade, tourism and employment

Travel time to Raipur expected to reduce to 5–6 hours; road connectivity with Bilaspur, Korba and Jharkhand to improve

Raipur, October 23, 2026/ Road infrastructure development in Jashpur district is gaining momentum under the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The Raipur–Dhanbad Economic Corridor, being developed under the Centre’s ambitious Bharatmala Project, is taking shape in the district. With an estimated investment of around ₹3,147 crore in Jashpur, the project is expected to improve connectivity with Raipur, major cities across Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states. Better roads are likely to create new opportunities in trade, tourism, agriculture and employment.

The corridor will span around 707 km, with approximately 104 km passing through Jashpur district. The four-lane road will connect Jashpur, Pathalgaon and surrounding areas to a wider transport network, making travel between Raipur and Dhanbad more convenient. It is also expected to improve access to Bilaspur, the judicial capital of Chhattisgarh; Korba, the state’s energy hub; and neighbouring Jharkhand.

Travel to Raipur to become easier, with significant reduction in journey time

The Raipur–Dhanbad Economic Corridor is expected to make travel more convenient for residents of Jashpur district. At present, journeys to Raipur are often time-consuming because of limited road capacity and traffic delays. Once the proposed four-lane corridor is completed, improved road conditions and smoother traffic flow are expected to reduce travel time significantly.

According to available project-related information, travel time on the relevant routes could fall from around 14 hours to eight or nine hours. The journey from Jashpur to Raipur is expected to take approximately five to six hours in the future. However, the actual duration will depend on route availability, traffic conditions and the project becoming fully operational.

Improved connectivity will make it easier for residents to travel to Raipur and other major cities for healthcare, higher education, business and administrative work.

Better connectivity to boost trade, agriculture and employment

The Raipur–Dhanbad Economic Corridor is expected to strengthen economic activity in Jashpur district. A better road network will help farmers transport their produce to larger markets more efficiently. Shorter transit times for horticultural crops, vegetables and other agricultural products are likely to benefit both farmers and traders.

Jashpur has significant potential in agriculture, forest produce, handicrafts and rural livelihood activities. Improved connectivity could help local products reach wider markets, expand commercial activity and encourage new enterprises. Road construction and better transport facilities are also expected to generate employment and self-employment opportunities.

Improved road access to strengthen Jashpur’s tourism potential

Known for its natural beauty, waterfalls, hilly landscapes, religious sites and rich tribal culture, Jashpur has considerable tourism potential. Limited connectivity has often made it difficult for visitors to reach several key attractions. The Bharatmala project is expected to improve access to the district for tourists from across Chhattisgarh and other parts of the country.

Better roads are likely to benefit destinations such as Mayali Nature Camp, Madheshwar Mountain, Ranidah Waterfall, Kailash Cave and other natural and religious attractions. Increased tourist footfall will support hotels, homestays, local transport, food services, handicrafts and other tourism-related businesses, creating new livelihood opportunities for local youth and rural communities.

Modern road infrastructure to facilitate safer, smoother travel

The economic corridor being developed under Bharatmala Project includes provisions for modern infrastructure aimed at improving road safety and traffic movement. Proposed facilities include underpasses, vehicular underpasses and structures designed to support wildlife movement.

These measures are intended to streamline traffic on the main corridor while ensuring the safe movement of local residents and vehicles. Wildlife crossings will also support environmental conservation and wildlife protection. The modern road network is expected to improve transport facilities for long-distance passenger and freight vehicles.

Rail connectivity also in focus alongside road infrastructure

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, efforts are also underway to expand road and rail connectivity in Jashpur district. Alongside the Bharatmala project, work on the Katni–Gumla National Highway has gained momentum. Several roads are also being constructed or upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and state highway programmes.

Progress has also been reported on the long-awaited rail connectivity for the district. Information regarding approval for the proposed Lohardaga–Dharamjaigarh railway line has been published in the Central Gazette. The proposed railway line is expected to further strengthen connectivity between Jashpur, neighbouring areas and the wider regional transport network. The expansion of both road and rail networks is expected to support the district’s social and economic development.

Major step towards connecting remote tribal areas with the mainstream development

Under Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership, special attention is being given to improving basic infrastructure in the remote rural and tribal areas of Jashpur district. Over the past nearly three years, several projects involving roads, bridges, culverts and other transport infrastructure have been taken forward.

The Raipur–Dhanbad Economic Corridor under Bharatmala Project is an important initiative in this direction. It is expected to strengthen Jashpur’s links with major economic centres in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states. Once completed, the project will facilitate travel and support the growth of trade, tourism, agriculture and rural livelihood activities.

The modern road network is expected to expand economic opportunities in Jashpur and mark an important step towards connecting remote areas with better transport facilities.
