BALCO inaugurates community hall in Sonpuri, lays foundation for another at Padimar

Korba, July 10: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a unit of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd., on Friday strengthened its community development initiatives by inaugurating a newly constructed community building at Sonpuri Panchayat and laying the foundation stone for another community hall at Padimar.

The inauguration was attended by Chhattisgarh Minister for Commerce & Industry, Public Enterprises, Commercial Taxes (Excise) and Labour, Lakhan Lal Dewangan, along with BALCO’s Chief Corporate Affairs and Administration Officer Capt. Dhananjay Mishra. Korba Mayor Sanju Devi Rajput, Balconagar Kannaujia Rathore Samaj president Jai Rathore, councillors Hitanand Agrawal and Rajat Prasad Khute, public representatives, BALCO officials and local residents were also present.
The newly inaugurated community building at Sonpuri Panchayat has been developed to serve as a common venue for social gatherings, cultural programmes, community meetings and other public activities. The foundation stone for the Padimar community building marks another step towards strengthening public infrastructure and improving access to community facilities in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan said BALCO has consistently contributed to regional development by complementing its industrial operations with social responsibility initiatives. He said community infrastructure such as these buildings would strengthen social participation and support village development. He also urged residents to preserve the facility and utilise it for the overall development of their village.
BALCO Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Kumar Singh, in a message issued on the occasion, said the company remains committed to supporting the development of neighbouring communities through healthcare, education, livelihood generation and infrastructure development. He said the creation of shared public spaces would further strengthen social bonds and contribute to the socio-cultural progress of the region.
According to the company, infrastructure development remains one of the key pillars of its community outreach programme. Over the past three years, BALCO has created more than 85 community assets, including roads, community buildings, children’s parks and renovated Anganwadi centres and government schools, benefiting over 20,600 people across 20 villages.
The company stated that during the past two months it has also inaugurated the Nehru Nagar Community Hall, developed Jubilee Park at the Civic Centre in Balconagar, established Smriti Udyan and undertaken the latest community infrastructure projects at Sonpuri and Padimar as part of its sustained efforts towards regional development.
