Kolkata, September 26: Shri Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, chaired a review meeting of Coal India Limited (CIL) at the company’s corporate office in Kolkata, focusing on its production and supply performance, diversification initiatives and measures to meet the country’s growing energy requirements.
During the meeting, Shri Kapoor reviewed the steps being taken to augment coal supplies to thermal power plants and assessed the progress of coal gasification initiatives. The review also covered key measures being undertaken by Coal India to strengthen coal availability and support the country’s energy security.
Coal India has produced more than 310 million tonnes (MT) of coal and supplied over 371 MT so far in the current fiscal. Of the total supplies, more than 291 MT has been supplied to the power sector, reflecting the company’s continued focus on meeting the fuel requirements of thermal power plants.
The meeting also discussed Coal India’s diversification initiatives aimed at expanding its role beyond conventional coal mining and supporting the transition towards newer energy and value-added sectors.
The Advisor emphasised the importance of maintaining adequate coal supplies to the power sector while advancing initiatives such as coal gasification. The review was part of the ongoing assessment of Coal India’s operational performance and preparedness to meet the country’s energy requirements.
