SECL Wins Green Transition Leadership Award, Becomes First CIL Arm to Cross 50 MT Coal Output

Bilaspur, July 17: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been honoured with the prestigious Green Transition Leadership Award at the Times Internet Ecopreneurs Awards 2026 for its outstanding contribution to sustainable mining and environmental conservation.

The award was presented to SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday. The recognition acknowledges the company’s sustained efforts in green mining, scientific mine closure, land reclamation, promotion of renewable initiatives and adoption of environment-friendly technologies.

In another significant achievement, SECL became the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited to cross the 50-million-tonne coal production mark in the current financial year 2026-27. The company recorded a 9.5 per cent increase in production over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

SECL’s flagship projects in Korba played a crucial role in achieving the milestone. Dipka produced 11.8 million tonnes, Gevra 11.7 million tonnes, and Kusmunda 9.7 million tonnes of coal. CIC Coalfields contributed 8.8 million tonnes, Raigarh Area 5.9 million tonnes, while Korba Area added 2.1 million tonnes.

Expressing gratitude on receiving the award, CMD Harish Duhan said the recognition reflects SECL’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. He said environmental conservation and energy security remain the twin pillars of the company’s growth strategy, adding that SECL will continue to promote responsible mining while meeting the country’s growing energy demand through safe, efficient and technology-driven operations.

SECL said it remains focused on strengthening the nation’s energy security by combining production excellence with environmentally responsible mining practices, while setting new benchmarks in sustainable growth.
