Massive turnout marks Hindu New Year celebrations in Korba; grand processions showcase rich cultural diversity

Korba, March 20: The city of Korba witnessed an overwhelming display of devotion and enthusiasm on Thursday as people from all sections of society came together to celebrate the Hindu New Year. The entire city wore a festive look, with saffron flags fluttering across streets and colourful decorative lighting illuminating major squares and roads.

A grand procession taken out on the occasion became the highlight of the celebrations, offering a vibrant glimpse into India’s diverse folk traditions. Cultural troupes from across the country captivated the audience with their traditional attire and performances, adding to the festive fervour. Devotional songs played on DJ systems kept the energy high, as residents—especially youths, women and young girls—participated enthusiastically, chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and carrying saffron flags.

The event was jointly organised under the leadership of Hindu Kranti Sena, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and Sarv Hindu Samaj. The procession commenced from two प्रमुख points—Ram Janaki Temple in Sitamadhi and Hanuman Temple in Kosabadi—and later converged at TP Nagar.

Although the procession was scheduled to begin at 3 pm, it eventually started after 6 pm due to the massive gathering of people that had already filled the city’s routes and intersections well in advance.

Notably, artists from as many as 13 states, including Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal and Odisha, participated in the procession. Their live tableaux and performances received a warm welcome all along the route, from Sitamadhi to Kosabadi.

Several service stalls were set up by social organisations at various points to facilitate participants and visitors. Arrangements for drinking water, refreshments, and food were made, ensuring convenience for the large crowd.

Key locations such as Subhash Chowk (Niharika), Ghantaghar and other prominent spots witnessed special receptions for the tableaux, drawing significant public attention.

The celebration stood out as a symbol of unity, cultural richness and religious fervour, transforming Korba into a vibrant hub of festivities.
